Reflections

I Feel You in Everything.. I (still) Feel you, Anyway

Some things never go away.. like this day that refuses to vanish from memory..

I feel You…
In every stone..
In every leaf of every tree..
That you ever might have grown..

I feel you…
In every thing..
In every river that might flow..
In every seed.. you might have sown..

I feel you…
In every rain..
In every beating of my heart..
In every breath I´ll ever take..

I feel you…
Anyway…
In every tear that I might shed
In every word I’ve never said

I still feel you…anyway.

Happy Birthday!

The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same

Lately, I’ve been in reflection mode. As the financial year closes on June 30th and I complete another year in my day job, and while I do the maths for my financials, I also tend to take stock of my life and things going on and those that are stuck somewhere.

May be it’s just the Monsoon season that has a profund effect on me which forces me to stop for a while and I’ve been reflecting on a lot of different things… work, love, life, more work, friendship, family, and again more work.

Or may be it’s just the 1st of July which brings back memories that I have not been able to shun and leave behind. There are lots of things about us that change; we make choices and decisions, we grow, we move on – or we don’t or just can’t. There are some things in our life which we can control and some which control us and we are moulded by those events and what is happening around us.

But some things in life never change, and we are forever slaves to those, they are just stuck somewhere, somehow.. and no matter what we do to move on, they are there smiling back at us.

This weekend too I exhanged few emails to get past one such thing that refuses to die down or go away even after years and resolve; but realized that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Thank You All For Wishing Me Happy Birthday!

It’s my Birthday today, the day when Prince Williams is getting married & giving this day a new dimension and a special place in history. Not that it needed another reference anyway. :)

I would like to say thanks to everybody, first of all my mom who wished me, like always, before anybody else did, my brothers, family, especially nephews, friends, colleagues and ex-colleagues for wishing me through SMS, Phone call. E-mail, Facebook wall posts and in person, that really made my day, guys!

As the Lt. Col. Frank Slade of “Scent of a Woman” would say on such day:

It’s a great day for singing a song
It’s a great day for moving along
It’s a great day for morning to night
It’s a great day for everybody’s polite

Thank you again to all who remembered and wished and to those too who forgot to wish this year again.. never mind, you were missed but I managed to wish myself on your behalf anyway!

The Day I Lost My Google Analytics Profiles and All Websites Stats with it!

Here is what happened today!

I got this dreadful Analytics profile deletion email notification from Google:

Hello,

We want to alert you that the Google Analytics account “Profile Name” has been deleted by “account email”. Please tell non-Administrative users of this account that the account has been deleted.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
The Google Analytics Team

My ex-partner, tried to detach her administrator account from our joint Google Analytics account where we had shared access, when she removed Profiles assuming she was only detaching and removing her access, deleted the profiles and accidentally deleted all the websites associated with those profiles.

Although most of the websites which are lost are my own but some were the clinets’. One of the profiles included a very important client and when I contacted Google (and being Adwords account holder with the same account ID which I hoped might get me somewhere), got me nowhere!

I got an automated response from Google which stated that it was not possible to recover or restore deleted Analytics Profiles data.

This is a shocking news to say the least in this age and day that Google would not get your lost data even when you are an AdWords customer!

The only consolation that I can think right now is that it could have been lot worse! Fortunately, I had not added all of the websites on which I work in this account. I had kept most clients’ and company websites associated with their separate Analytics accounts and that precaution has saved me lot of remorse today.

I’m a sadder and a wiser man today!

Thank you Google for your screwed up standard operating procedures for Analytics!

Remembering Faiz on his 100th Birth Anniversary with Kuch Ishq Kiya, Kuch Kaam Kiya

Today is the 100th Birthday Anniversary of Faiz Ahmed Faiz (February 13, 1911 – November 20, 1984), one of the greatest poets of Urdu language. And on the eve of Valentine’s Day, for me there could not be a better and befitting way of remembering him on his birthday centenary than by his following famous poem.

Kuch Ishq Kiya, Kuch Kaam Kiya

Woh Laug Buhut Khush Kismet Thiey
Jau Ishq Kau Kaam Samjhtiey Thiey
Ya Kaam Siey Aashqee Kartiey Thiey

Hum Jeetiey Ji Masroof Rahiey
Kuch Ishq Kiya, Kuch Kaam Kiya
Kaam Ishq Kiey Aariey Aata Raha

Aur Ishq Siey Kaam Ulajhta Raha
Phir Aakhir Tang Aakar Hum Niey
Daunoo Kau Adhura Chor Diya

Translation: A Bit of Love, A Bit of Work

Those were indeed the fortunate lot
Who undertook love as work
Or were in love with their vocation

I kept myself busy all my life
With little bit of love, and little bit of work
Work came in the way of love

And love often impeded work
Then, finally, in disgust, giving it all up
I forsook them both (love and work), unfinished

I tried though!

Happy 100th Birthday, Faiz Ahmed Faiz!

More of the Same, New Year Resolutions & Happy New Year 2011!

New Year’s Eve is a time for looking back and reflect upon last year’s accomplishments and failures. It’s time to take stock and see in which direction one is heading. Personally, 2010 (being a tiger year) has been a very good year for me, I did learn lot of new things such as Facebook apps and fan pages development, Facebook Flash Game development and dedicated server management.

Apart from learning, other good things that happened this year are: my websites got higher Google PageRanks, I started contributing more regularly to the blog, expanded web development business to Australia, got a serious handle on Flash Action Scripting 3.0 which I had been avoiding like a plague for a while, fixed few of my websites and sorted out some of their long standing issues, launched a new Web Directory for my link building campaigns, and finally was able to find some time to put together my own website. I think I have got somewhat organized finally and things are in place for take-off!

But biggest achievement of the 2010 was the PASHA ICT runners up award for Fashion Central.pk for New Media and Entertainment App category that I designed and developed from scratch and then optimized.

On a personal front, my younger brother got married, (this was not part of MY last year’s resolutions and I could not have made that anyway, it was a surprise but a pleasant one :) )

So this year’s resolutions are actually more of the same! And they are in no particular order:

  1. Yes to more Facebook apps and pages development
  2. Yes to Social Media Flash Game Development
  3. Yes to even higher PageRanks
  4. More web design and development work
  5. Higher search engine rankings
  6. More web portals development (and hopefully awards!)
  7. More blogging
  8. More running and gymming
  9. More time with family
  10. And more Angry Birds!

And less dreams of the past (only if I could control that and not that I want them to go away anyway).

Finally, to welcome this new year full of exciting opportunities, I designed a new Season’s Greetings Flash E-Card, I have put it on Flash-Greetings.com home page.

Happy New Year 2011!!

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2011!

Aj Din Charheya, Tere Rang Warga

If insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, for once, I’ll with-hold all that I had to say and give today and act differently.

But then Somethings never change!

In a world that keeps turnin’ and movin’ so fast
When you can’t hold on to nothin’ and nothin’ seems to last

It’s so good to feel that somethings never change.

Aj Din Charheya, Tere Rang Warga

Happy Birth Day!
