Last year Facebook launched its Places service in US, which allows Facebook users to share their location with their friends by ‘checking in’ to bars, restaurants and shops and to see which friends are near them, via the social network’s mobile phone application.
Facebook made a significant move into the potentially lucrative local business advertising space on this last Monday with the launch in the UK and other European countries of Places Deals, which gives users discounts and benefits with nearby shops, restaurants and venues via their Facebook mobile phones application.
By offering Deals through partners, which looks a good idea; who does not like a discount, but there are serious privacy concerns and when you consider that wherever you go, your whole itinerary will be available to marketers to dig in and ads popping out on your mobile as you stroll.
