Authentication alone does not create a member website. After WordPress knows who a member is, it still needs clear rules for pages, downloads, training resources and private documents.
PI WP Suite for MemberClicks Trade combines MemberClicks SSO with WordPress-native content restriction and role-aware access. The result is a practical access layer without claiming that MemberClicks Trade is itself a WordPress content-management system.
Learn more about PI WP Suite for MemberClicks Trade and its three access-control levels.
Restrict Content is a top-level workspace
Restrict Content has its own administration tab because it serves a distinct purpose:
- SSO confirms identity.
- Member Sync & Roles connects membership information to WordPress roles.
- Restrict Content controls access to WordPress pages and posts.
- The Business Access Library gives members a convenient list of resources they are allowed to use.
Keeping these decisions separate makes the workflow easier to audit.
Protect existing content or create a draft
Administrators can select an existing WordPress page or post and apply access rules. They can also create a protected draft as the starting point for a new resource.
Examples include:
- Board and committee documents
- Chapter toolkits
- Member training pages
- Video libraries
- Download centres
- Course links
- Event resources
- Staff or volunteer handbooks
The protected item remains ordinary WordPress content, so editors can use the block editor, their preferred page builder and established editorial workflow.
Login-based restriction in Standard
Standard includes content restriction by login status and WordPress role. It is suitable when every active member receives the same base WordPress role or when administrators already maintain the required roles.
An unauthorized visitor can be directed toward the MemberClicks SSO path or another configured destination. After authentication, WordPress evaluates the local session and applicable role.
Role mapping in Business
Business adds tenant-aware metadata discovery and visual role mapping. When the connected Trade tenant exposes compatible member types or groups, administrators can map those values to WordPress roles.
This supports experiences such as:
- Professional members receive
professional_access. - Board members receive
board_member. - Chapter leaders receive
chapter_leader. - Staff receive an internal resource role.
Actual values come from the connected MemberClicks account. The plugin does not rely on bundled sample client data.
Lifecycle execution in Developer
Business administrators can configure lifecycle rules. Developer activates those rules during login and scheduled reconciliation.
That distinction is important. Business is appropriate for defining the intended mapping. Developer is designed for organizations that need automated role additions or removals as supported membership information changes.
Developer also adds advanced synchronization health and retry controls, making it easier to monitor larger directory and role workflows.
Build a role-aware Access Library
Business and Developer include the Access Library. Instead of asking members to remember which pages exist, the portal can show a curated list of resources permitted by their WordPress roles.
The Access Library shortcode can be placed in a page or dashboard:
[pi_mc_trade_content]
Administrators may also set a limit and select post types:
[pi_mc_trade_content limit="12" post_type="page,post"]
This works well alongside WordPress learning, document, community and membership plugins because WordPress remains the access-enforcement layer.
Access control does not require Trade API writes
The current plugin release keeps Trade API resource access read-only. Restrict Content changes WordPress rules and content visibility; it does not write profile changes back to MemberClicks.
This is a useful architectural boundary. MemberClicks remains authoritative for membership data, while WordPress controls its own pages, roles and resources.
A simple implementation sequence
- Configure API Settings and run the connection check.
- Complete WebLinkAuth SSO setup.
- Choose the default WordPress role.
- In Business or Developer, discover supported member types and groups.
- Map membership values to WordPress roles.
- Protect WordPress content.
- Add permitted items to the member dashboard or Access Library.
- Test with active, inactive and differently entitled member accounts.
Choose the edition by access complexity
- Standard: SSO, a default role and protected WordPress content.
- Business: metadata discovery, visual role mapping, full member portal and role-aware Access Library.
- Developer: active lifecycle rules, scheduled reconciliation and advanced synchronization control.
